Comfortable Horse Riding

April 26th, 2010
Comments Off

Riding a horse is a sport that should not be taken lightly. That is why when you want to learn to ride horses, you need to have the right training and gear. Riding can be a safe experience when you have all the right gear with you. And if you know that your horse is comfortable in his tack, you can expect a very enjoyable ride.

When choosing the right tack for your horse, you don’t just look for something that is comfortable for you — especially when it comes to horse saddles. The saddle should be just right for both human and animal. You may find that a saddle fits you perfectly, but it may have edges or ridges that can press against the horse’s skin. And when a horse is not comfortable, the entire ride can suffer. Investing on a quality helmet, a sweatshirt or riding jacket and a pair of gloves also ensures a safer and much better ride.

Draft horses are also called work horses because they are suited for drawing heavy loads. There are breeds that are suited as draft horses. This will include the Belgian, Clydesdale, Percheron, and Shire, all of which are extremely large and noted for their strength, endurance, and good disposition. They are used in a multitude of purposes including farming and logging; for show and recreation. Draft horses can also be ridden under saddle.

Draft horses need draft horse saddles. You will find them in a variety of styles for different levels and budgets. You will want to look for a draft horse saddle made of premium leather, special tooling and with at least 16″ wide seat. It is all about the size of the seat which should fit the horse nicely. Horses Are Meant To Be Ridden

March 25th, 2010

Riding big animals are fun. So far I’ve rode horses, elephants, camels, giraffes, cows and buffalos. My favorite among them are horses. I love them the most because they go fast and it seems they are the only animals that you can control fairly easily. Camels are easily controlled but they look too weird. To ride horses, you’ll need a saddle, blanket, bridle, stirrups, reins etc. They are known as horse tack supplies.

Horse tack supplies refer to any equipment that you will use to ride a horse in a domesticated capacity. Horse riding is fun. It literally can take all your worries away. That’s why I love it. When I’m stressed or need to recharge, I go to the country where I can enjoy nature on the back of my favorite horse.

Horse Training

March 19th, 2010

A rider will have a hard time mounting a horse if tries putting his foot in the stirrup while the horse keeps stepping sideways or won’t keep still. Learn how to train a horse to stand still so that you can get on without much difficulty. Start by working your horse in circles around the pen with the message that you can make him work when you want to and that he gets to stop when you say he can stop.

Next, take him to the center of the pen and stand on his left side. Place both your hands in the left stirrup, palms down and push down hard twice quickly. Repeat the two procedures until he stands still when you push down on the stirrup. At some point, he will know that when he does not move, you will not make him do the circles anymore.

horse information

March 2nd, 2010

Arguably the most loved animal in the world is the horse. People and pet lovers can be divided into two categories, dog lover or cat lover. But both definitely are horse lovers. There are different breeds of horses. My favorites are the Clydesdale and miniature horses. To get more horse information on them, search the web.

Some horse information that can be found on the Clydesdale includes: ~Clydesdales are horses from Clydesdale, Scotland. ~They are massive horses measuring around six feet in height. ~Clydesdale horses are known for their strength, thus they are used primarily to pull heavy loads. In fact, they are best known for pulling a carriage in a beer commercial.

Horse training methods

February 10th, 2010

Different trainers employ different horse training techniques. Horse training methods range from the gentle and respectful way of treating the horse to brutal tactics. The first step will definitely be creating understanding between the owner and the horse. This is called bonding. It is important to choose the training method that will bring about love and respect between the horse and the owner.

It is important to have signals shared by the horse and the owner. Horses have greater senses than humans, so this should not be a difficult thing to do. Once trust is established, it is easy enough to follow through with your planned goal. There will be techniques that will prepare a horse for pleasure riding, for show or to use in work related activities. What is important to remember is that this will take some time. Don’t be convinced by quick fix programs as these can get you into trouble if you are not careful.

Horse exercise

January 13th, 2010

A lot people love animals. Arguably the most loved animal of all is the horse. There are dog lovers and cat lovers but both are horse lovers. If you plan on getting a horse, make sure you can provide for it. They need a big space to run around and grazed. Horses need their exercise. Horse exercise is necessary for their well being.

Without horse exercise, your horse will be unfit and unruly. I’ve seen some unfit horses. They don’t look healthy. Also, unfit horses can’t be ridden long. Horses are very active animals. If left alone to graze, they will often travel many miles every day. When horses get domesticated, they are often kept in small enclosures. They don’t get the exercise they need.

basic horse care

December 28th, 2009

Horses, like humans, have basic needs. They don’t need to be housed in a fancy stall with the best of everything. They are actually happiest when placed in a natural environment where they can move around, graze and socialize freely.

At the very least, basic horse care should include:

~Unlimited supply of fresh clean water and access to minerals and salt
~Grass for grazing or equivalent amount of good quality hay
~A dry clean area to lie down and shelter from bad weather
~Safe fencing and a pasture that is free from hazards like holes, rusty farm machinery, etc.
~Companionship with another horse, donkey, mule or pony
~Daily monitoring for injury and illness

leather horse leads

December 2nd, 2009

There is always a right tool for the job and this applies to the proper training of horses as well. Use a lead rope when training your horse to move into a stall or to a different pasture. Proper leading requires that the animal respects your space, not run past you, and not run over you or step on your feet. Your horse must learn to follow you on a loose lead and move off with a feel when you ask.

Use leather horse leads as they give the rope a “live” feel that you can use to send direction, energy, and feel to your horse. This type of material will come into play during training. The heavier the feel of the lead, the more you can send subtle “messages” to your horse which would not be possible with lighter ropes.

English riding boots

November 30th, 2009

Being garbed in proper riding apparel is part of the sport of horseback riding. English riding apparel will include breeches and coats, riding boots and helmets. There will also be accessories such as riding gloves, a vest and a tailored shirt. A rider who is dressed up for a ride is a sight to behold. There is regulatory riding apparel when in competition.

No element of English riding attire more fully embodies that combination of style and substance than English riding boots. Whether lace-fronted field boots for hunter-jumper events and some three-day events, or plain-front dress boots for dressage, tall boots present a continuous, elegant line of leather from stirrup to saddle. Beyond look alone, however, their fit–how snugly they follow the body’s contours–directly affects the rider’s control and how clearly commands are conveyed from human to animal. A well fitting pair of boots is not easy to come by. There are so many variables in the human lower leg and feet that can affect the fit. A bit of patience and perseverance will be rewarded with a satisfying boot shopping experience.
