dog urns

January 29th, 2009

Our neighbor was crazy for his dog, Fido. I actually have seen Fido from the time he was a small puppy till he grew up to a big, burly but playful dog. I can understand why she was crazy over Fido. Despite his size (he was a Saint Bernard!), he was irrepressibly affectionate.

She was totally devastated when he died, but what happened after his death surprised me. Instead of having him buried in the pet cemetery and having an expensive tombstone put in his grave, she had Fido cremated and bought one of those dog urns to house his remains. I thought cremation was only for humans. Now that is total affection for a pet.

dog behavior problems

January 29th, 2009

Children who do not know how to behave are unpleasant to be around. The same way, a pet with dog behavior problems will be disliked by the owner’s neighbors and friends. This is actually not the dog’s fault if he has never been trained. It is a pet owner’s responsibility to ensure that his dog acts properly when around other people.

A properly trained pet responds instantly to commands. He is less likely to be left behind when you go walking in the park or go on a road trip. Dogs that are well trained are also more relaxed instead of confused about their roles. Make sure you train your dog early to modify his bad behaviors before they escalate into something that can be dangerous to the people and other animals around him.

dog sundress

January 28th, 2009

I had planned to incorporate my dog into my Halloween costume this year. I was planning on a cartoon character but couldn’t find the right one yet. It also has to be a character with a sidekick, so I could dress up my dog in that fashion.

While I haven’t decided yet, I bought a dog sundress first, just to be sure. When I’ve finally decided, I can just stitch the design or attach accessories into it. And if I do change my mind, I can just easily remove it and do another costume. That way I can save on money and make our costumes more unique and creative.

Crypton dog beds

January 22nd, 2009

It was a hectic weekend that we had last week. We bought Crypton dog beds for our two bulldog puppies, and like babies they found it stressful to move from the “crib” to the big bed.

The “crib” was our queen-sized bed. We decided to buy our dogs their own beds because leg space was getting scarce; we can’t turn the dogs into leg pillows, right? They didn’t like the idea, though, of sleeping somewhere else other than our bed. We placed them into their beds, went to sleep, woke up around thirty or so minutes later to put the dogs back into their beds. That went on for about three times, until we finally gave up and put their beds on top of our bed.So much for doggie training.

dog obedience jumps

January 20th, 2009

When it comes to dog competitions, there is no substitute for experience and practice. Prepare your dog well in advance before entering him to any contests. Competitors will do well to practice on dog obedience jumps, weave pole sets, tire jumps, tunnels, chutes, etc. You need to gain team confidence.

Make exercises familiar by taking your dog to matches as often as possible. Train in various locations so your dog can perform exercises anywhere without having a preference for a particular place. Study courses and look for hard and challenging sequences then set them up in your backyard. Knowing you and your dog are ready will help reduce the nervousness when you finally go out there to take on real challenges.

January 14th, 2009

Ferrets are now one the most common uncaged pets in North America right behind the cats and dogs. They have distinct personalities combined with a playful nature. These active animals love roaming around to investigate anything and everything. They will explore, make their nest as well as find their own treasures.

Keep track of your pet wherever she may be hiding. The Marshall Ferret Red Bell Collar comes with a ferret toy bell to make it easy to detect a missing animal. Just by the tinkle of the bell, you will know where your ferret is. This durable collar comes with a loop you can attach to a leash.
