dog food recall

September 17th, 2009

The frightening thing is that the melamine contamination that happened in 2007 involved big names in the pet food industry. It was discovered that pet foods were making pets sick. Some cats and dogs were dying after eating the particular brand of pet food. The cause was found to be melamine contamination of vegetable proteins imported into the US from China. Cat and dog food recall was initiated.

Even as people representing the involved Chinese and US companies have been indicted for their roles in the fiasco, pet owners are still wondering how something like this can happen. Can we be 100% sure that tainted pet food has been completely cleared off the shelves? We should be vigilant in choosing the food that we give our pets. We should keep a close watch especially on the first few days or weeks that we are giving a new kind of pet food. We should investigate and bring to the attention of pet doctors if we see something unusual in the actuations of our pets.
