Finding Solace After Losing A Brother

June 3rd, 2010

Death is inevitable for all of us. In time, we will all go back to our place in the heavens, in the arms of a higher power. People have different ways of dealing with the death of a loved one. Some visit the cemetery and tend to the grave, bringing flowers and candles. Others place their loved ones ashes in a wooden cremation urn and brought home.

When my brother died, we were still very young then. He was sick, and we knew that it was only a matter of time before he left us. It was my mother’s idea to have him cremated so we could take him home. Sometimes I would take the urn and place it beside me on the couch and watch TV, so it would seem like we were watching together. It may seem a little weird, but I somehow find comfort in it, and it doesn’t hurt as much anymore.
