Parrot pellets
There seems to be disagreement on the use of pellets as opposed to supplemented seed and fresh food as the best diet for parrots. Parrot pellets are claimed to contain all essential nutrients in a balanced formula and are totally edible. With pellets or crumbles the birds get excellent nutrition. Those who prefer to give pellets to their birds limit the use of supplements or treats. Parrot pellets vary in size from the crumble size to medium size diets for bigger birds like macaws and cockatoos.
The other camp believes that attempting to get all nutrients into a pellet is a bit of a challenge. Furthermore, getting all the nutrients to survive the manufacturing and distribution process can be difficult. The matter of shelf life of the product is also being questioned. This camp believes that seeds with supplements are the best diet for pet parrots. Besides, there are pet owners who claim that their birds are allergic to pellets.
