Different Kinds of Dog Agility Obstacles

Dog agility is a dog sport in which a handler directs a dog through an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. Dogs run off without a leash and are not provided with incentives. They may be asked to walk down different designs of planks before they go through an agility course. A simple agility course will have a set of standard obstacles. This may consist of different kinds of hurdles, a pause box and weave poles.

Weave poles consist of a series of 5 to 12 upright poles, each about 3 feet tall and spaced about 20 inches apart. A dog is supposed to weave through the poles. The dog must always enter with the first pole to his left, and must not skip poles. For many dogs, weave poles are one of the most difficult obstacles to master. Agility exercises are usually staged for competition.
